Old Village Hall

Old Village Hall

Village Hall opened in 1952
Photo showing Queen Elizabeth II Coronation celebrations 2nd June 1953
Used for 44 years until the new village hall was opened.

The old village hall was built after the war, by the local residents, out of  Govenment surplus huts. The roof and sides were made from these huts on a concrete and brick base and opened in 1952 by Keneth Horne the world famous radio comic and buisnessman, who had relitives living in Northrepps. The Village hall was situated on School Close, on the opposite side of the road to where the village hall is now. The last two houses on the left, as you go out of the centre of the village onto New road, were built after its demolition sometime after July 1996, when the new village hall was opened.

When the village hall was complete, the old reading room on Crossdale street was revamped. Power coming from an RAF surplus generator. The reading room was used for whist drives and had darts and bar billiards on offer.
